Artistic Approach
At the core of Grzegorz Łapiński’s work lies a deep interest in narrative. He approaches music as a parallel voice within the story—an element that shapes time, tension, and emotional perspective. Rather than illustrating events, his scores seek to reveal the inner states of characters and the hidden layers of dramaturgy.
An essential aspect of his practice is the dialogue between sound and silence. Space, reduction, and fragility become compositional tools equal to melody or harmony. As a result, his music remains open and suggestive, leaving room for the listener’s personal interpretation.
The composer frequently works with literary material and text-based forms, contributing to projects inspired by the works of Shakespeare, Kafka, and Dostoevsky, among others. These experiences have shaped his sensitivity to structure, narrative rhythm, and the construction of musical arcs.
His musical language is grounded in the integration of acoustic performance with electronic processing. Ultimately, however, technique and technology remain only means to an end—the creation of music that is sincere, focused, and deeply rooted in the emotional core of the story.
Selected Film and Television Works
Grzegorz Łapiński composes music for feature films, documentaries, and television formats. His work to date includes both full-length Television Theatre productions as well as short and documentary films presented and awarded at festivals in Poland and internationally.
Among his most notable film works are:
Halo, Halo, This Is Warsaw Speaking (dir. Ewa Małecki) – a full-length Television Theatre production, premiered on TVP1.
View from My Balcony (dir. Ewa Małecki) – a Television Theatre film, premiered on TVP Kultura; awarded the Gold Remi at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in the Independent Experimental Films & Videos – Dramatic category.
My Father and Qaddafi (dir. Jihan K.) – a U.S.–Libyan documentary film, premiered at the Venice Film Festival and subsequently presented at festivals worldwide, receiving awards in Rome, Doha, Brussels, and Marrakech.
Short films Inside Me (dir. Maria Wider) and I Am Here (dir. Agata Minowska), recognized and awarded at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
In his film scores, the composer combines the sound of acoustic instruments with electronics and sound design, treating music as a carrier of emotion and underlying meaning rather than merely an illustration of the image.
Theatre and Polish Radio Theatre
Another crucial pillar of the composer’s work is theatre and his output for Polish Radio Theatre. The radio play form—based entirely on sound and imagination—has become a natural space for him to explore narrative, rhythm, and the creation of imagery through music.
He has composed music for over a dozen Polish Radio Theatre productions, including:
— Gracz (The Gambler) (Fyodor Dostoevsky)
— Noc Tysiączna Druga (The Thousand and Second Night) (Cyprian Kamil Norwid)
— Lilije (Lilies) (Adam Mickiewicz)
— Myśli i Uczucia Dozwolone (Thoughts and Feelings Permitted) (Ewa Małecki)
— Panna S. (Miss S.) (Iwona Rusek)
— Próchno (Decay) (Wacław Berent)
— Pułapka (The Trap) (Tadeusz Różewicz)
— Słowo Honoru (Word of Honor) (Iwona Rusek)
— Legenda II (Legend II) (Stanisław Wyspiański), dir. Ewa Małecki
— Koriolan (Coriolanus) (William Shakespeare)
— Przemienienie (The Metamorphosis) (after Franz Kafka), dir. Katarzyna Łęcka
For his work with Polish Radio Theatre, he received the “Amadeusz 2020” Award for Best Debut in composition.
He has also composed music for theatre productions:
— Podróż do Wnętrza Pokoju (A Journey into the Interior of a Room) (Michał Walczak), dir. Ewa Małecki — Silesian Theatre in Katowice
— Walizka (The Suitcase) (Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk), dir. Ewa Małecki — Collegium Nobilium Theatre in Warsaw

He has also composed music for audiobooks and audio series released as large-scale productions on the Audioteka platform:
— Virga
— Sprawiedliwy Inaczej (Just in a Different Way)
— Ostatnie Takie Wakacje (The Last Summer Like This)
— Posag 7 Panien (The Dowry of Seven Maidens)

Orchestration, Arrangement, and Large-Scale Stage Productions
Alongside his compositional work, Grzegorz Łapiński develops his practice as an orchestrator and arranger on large-scale stage productions. In this role, he is responsible for translating compositional material into expanded performing forces, working with orchestra, instrumental ensembles, and vocal groups.
In 2024, he completed the instrumentation of music by Mariusz Obijalski for the musical Quo Vadis, directed by Wojciech Kościelniak and staged at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia. In 2023, he was responsible for the arrangement and instrumentation of Mariusz Obijalski’s music for the musical A Statek Płynie, staged at Capitol Theatre in Wrocław, which was nominated for the Fryderyk Award.
Education and Technological Background
The composer graduated in composition from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and, through a scholarship, studied at the composition department of the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He is currently an assistant in the composition class at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź and is pursuing a doctoral degree focused on multi-layered improvisation, electroacoustic music, and real-time sound processing.
In his creative practice, he combines a classical compositional foundation with advanced sound technology tools, including environments for live electronics, synthesis, and the development of custom virtual instruments.
Original Live Project
Another equally important area of Grzegorz Łapiński’s creative work is his original live project as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. This material emerges from the need to create deeply personal music—free from aesthetic and genre constraints.
His music exists at the intersection of indie electronica, neoclassical, ambient, and elements of minimalist jazz. His concerts take the form of a solo, multi-instrumental live performance in which piano, saxophone, synthesizers, samplers, and loopers coexist with ethereal vocals and subtle electronics.
To date, he has released three original tracks, and work on his debut album—begun in 2023—currently forms the central focus of this project’s development.
Let’s Collaborate
The composer remains open to collaboration on film, theatre, audio, and multimedia projects—both in Poland and internationally. He approaches each new project as a space for dialogue, in which music becomes an integral part of the narrative.
